BTS 1 draft

1 Cindy works in the small advertising agency for five years. She started her career in this company right after college as a graphic designer and made all the through to the art director position. She is creative, hard-working person and have always thought that her efforts were appreciated by the company. Last year was very successful for the agency and employer decided to hire additional workers to handle the growing business, including assistant for the Cindy. She was happy about some extra help and soon became friends with her new assistant, Josh, a recent graduate from college. One day during regular conversation Cindy asked Josh about his salary. She was really surprised to found out that it was the same as hers: $39000 a year. Cindy was really upset and feels not appreciated. She thought that it happened because she is a woman and that she was discriminated. Her position is higher, she has more responsibilities and big relevant work experience, but her salary is the same as Josh`s. She doesn`t know what is the best step to take and is totally confused and disappointed.

2. This scenario is unethical because Cindy doesn`t receive a fair pay for her job. Her job performance is excellent, she is in the one of the leading positions, but her salary is the same as Josh`s, who just graduated from college, doesn`t have any experience in advertising industry and has less job responsibilities. She thinks that the real reason is her gender and the employer is discriminating her. More important, there is no guarantee that this situation won`t happened in the future at other job. Some actions should be taken, but Cindy is too confused and upset at the moment to find the best solution.

1. E-mail to Allison
Dear Allison,

I understand you reaction, but your e-mail to Ken is probably not the most effective way to eliminate the problem. On the other hand, he is an important part of our group and the project can`t be fully finished without Ken`s participation. I suggest to calm down and then talk to Ken face to face. Our goal is to explain Ken without blaming him the importance of working collaboratively on this catalog. Probably he does not fully understand how his behavior slows down group productivity. He needs better organization of his time in order to be more punctual. A better way to reach an agreement is to suggest a set of rules we all should follow during our work on e-catalog, like: everyone should come to the meetings and do it on time; we should devote certain amount of time to the project and never come unprepared; in order to respect our dedication and hard work, no cell phones should be used during the meetings.

Let`s try our best to avoid a conflict and concentrate on results. We should talk to Ken as soon as we can. Answer what you think about my idea,

Elena.

2. Memo to the Colby Larson

To: Ms. Colby Larson

Green Flag Solutions` Vice President of Development

Re: Interdisciplinary teamDevelopment of e-catalog for Brooks

Dear Ms. Larson,

As you know, Allison,Ken and I were assigned by you to develop an e-catalog for the Brooks request. We appreciate your trust and do our best. Unfortunately, Ken, customer sales representative, does not dedicate enough time and efforts to the project. He already has missed two out of three meetings, has been late and unprepared to another one. Allison and I tried to resolve the conflict personally with Ken, but he did not respond well to our communication. It seems like the project is going to be slowed down if Ken`s behavioral pattern will continue.

As a prove of existing problem I attached a few e-mails which reflect our attempts to work collaboratively with Ken and his responses.

We would really be grateful for your help in resolving this conflict so our performance as a team won`t suffer.

Sincerely,

Elena
